Learn Why the Ford EcoSport Is Our Favorite Compact Crossover
When Ford released the EcoSport a few years ago, it was hailed for being a roomy and fuel-efficient SUV with lots of style. As Ford’s smallest SUV, it’s easy on the budget, sleek, and perfect for both the city and the open road.
Trim Levels
There are four 2020 EcoSport configurations. First, the Ford EcoSport S comes standard with a 1-liter EcoBoost engine with auto start-stop for added fuel economy and front-wheels drive. It has a 60/40 split rear seat and 16-inch wheels. Next, the SE adds a power moonroof and electronic automatic temperature control. The next trim level, the EcoSport Titanium, offers some luxury touches with standard leather-trimmed seats, power driver’s seat, and heated front seating surfaces. It also adds 17-inch premium dark aluminum wheels. Finally, the 2020 EcoSport SES tops the group with an intelligent four-wheel drive system, an upgraded sport-tuned suspension, and black exterior trim accents, such as an upgraded grille and black molding.
Safety and Technology Features
For safety, the Ford compact SUV is equipped with Ford Co-Pilot360, which is designed to keep the driver and passengers safe by using technology to monitor conditions and alert the driver to potential hazards. Additionally, the available cross-traffic alert monitors the vehicle’s blind spots and notifies the driver when it is unsafe to change lanes. The vehicle comes standard with a rearview camera, and to make it even more effective, Ford added a camera washer to keep the view clear.
In terms of technology, it includes an available 8-inch EcoSport touchscreen with SYNC 3, which is Ford’s voice-activated technology interface. Navigation and a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot are also available, and the 2020 EcoSport comes standard with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, two USB charging ports, and two 12-volt outlets, one in the front and back.
Functionality
The 2020 EcoSport compact crossover is great for anyone with cargo-hauling needs. It offers up to 20.9 cubic feet of cargo space while the second row of seating is up, and up to 50 cubic feet of cargo space when the second row is collapsed. For passengers, the EcoSport can fit five people and gives them ample space with a first-row headroom of 39.6-inches and first-row legroom at 42.9-inches. In the second row, passengers will be comfortable with 37.5-inches of headroom and 36.7-inches of legroom. On the exterior, the vehicle’s wheelbase measures 99.2 inches, while the length is 161.3 inches, giving the vehicle a nimbleness to navigate tight areas or fit into narrower parking spots.
In terms of fuel economy, the EcoSport offers an impressive 27 mpg city and 29 mpg highway, which is produced by the 1-liter 3-cylinder EcoBoost engine. Alternatively, the 2-liter 4-cylinder motor produces 23 mpg city and 29 mpg highway. While the 1-liter engine offers 123-horsepower and 125 lb.-ft. of torque, the 2-liter engine offers 166-horsepower and 149 lb.-ft. of torque. Either way, the vehicle’s performance is excellent.
