Everything We Know About the 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E
The first Mustang Mach-Es are due at dealerships in late 2020, with the mid-range First Edition and Premium models scheduled to arrive first.
An electric Mustang SUV? You heard that right! KBB states:
Long story short, Ford didn’t want its first new-from-the-ground-up electric car (remember, the old Ranger EV and Focus EV were reconfigured gasoline models) to be just another bland 2-row crossover. So, after some soul searching, Ford decided to leverage its strengths and use the hallowed Mustang name on an all-new electric SUV that delivers what it calls guilt-free performance.
Quick Facts:
- Ford considers the Mach-E to be a true Mustang SUV, not a Mustang-inspired SUV.
- The Mach-E is the first vehicle based on Ford’s Global Electric Architecture, a dedicated EV platform featuring a large lithium-ion battery pack that sits right between the front and rear axles.
- The standard 76-kWh battery will provide 240 miles of EPA range. Also available will be a 99-kWh battery pack.
- The Mach-E is one powerful EV SUV producing 332 horsepower and 417 lb-ft of torque.
- The RWD Ford Mustang Mach-E relies on a single 210-kilowatt electric motor, while the AWD Ford Mustang Mach-E has a 50-kilowatt electric motor in the front.
- The trunk is found in the front of the SUV, accessible under the long hood. This trunk is 4.8 cubic feet.
Exterior
First things first, the Mach-E has no door handles. Instead, there are buttons that open the doors once pressed. The rear doors, however, don’t get a pull handle. And look at that grille! How powerful. The angled LED headlights and the tri-bar taillights are similar to those on the coupe. Words don’t do this Mustang any justice. You have to see for yourself.
Interior
The interior of the Ford Mustang Mach-E is all new. The cabin is made up of high-quality materials like “Sensico” leather on the seats and steering wheel, a brand-new material for Ford, as well as premium cloth on the dash and speakers. The new Mach-E has a standard 15.5-inch portrait-oriented touchscreen which sits front and center. According to Ford, this highly configurable touchscreen is very human centric, not screen centric, their way of saying the interface gets easier as it learns the driver’s tendencies. Ford’s infotainment system is also standard as well as the Co-Pilot 360 2.0. The cabin itself is pretty impressive overall, the Mach-E comes in with 40.5 inches of front headroom and 41.7 inches of front legroom. There are obviously no mechanical parts in the powertrain of EVs so there is going to be a ton of room in this Ford.
Since there is no front engine, the Mustang Mach-E has a “frunk” with up to 4.8 cubic feet. Imagine this “frunk” being the next tailgate spot! We think it’ll be great for throwing a cooler full of brewskis and hanging around having a good time at the game.
